The photos include a description from The Industrial Monthly from Jan 1872
an interesting piece from The Capital newspaper June 29th 1873 regarding these pitchers…
MR. REED of THE CAPITAL returns his thanks
to H. Semken, agent in this city, for an elegant
cryptochylon ice pitcher made expressly for
him by the manufacturers, Messrs. Adams,
Hallock Jfc Co., No. I Bond street, New* York.
The outer and inner surfaces of the pitcher are of
silver, the former exhibitipg, in monogram,
the initials -of the donee. "Cryptochylon"
signifies inclosed wood; and the pitcher is of
wood hermetically sealed within a metallic
covering. It possesses, therefore, i n , an eminent
degree, three essential qualities: purity,
durability, and non-conduction. The cryptochylon
was awarded a special medal by the
American Institute exhibition of 1872, and is
well, deserving of the preference which it received.
As a part of the paraphernalia of our
editorial haunt we have, to the present of our
thoughtful friend, Mr. Semlcen, but one objection
: it is too handsome.
