Antique E.G. Webster & SonRepousse
Silver Plate Water Pitcher;
Up for sale is the
finely crafted repousse
silver plate water pitcher by E.G. Webster & Son, dated circa 1910.
The pitcher has a unique shape with a protruding belly and a beautiful patina on the copper body. It features a hexagonal design with overall figural scenes likely
in the Victorian or Neo-classical style
and decorated with floral, foliage and geometric motifs. It is hallmarked on the bottom. Please note that the photos do not do justice to the artwork.
E. G. Webster & Son
was an American manufacturer of silverware founded by Elizur G. Webster (1829-1900). The firm was started in
Brooklyn, NY in 1859 and became known as E. G. Webster & Son in 1886 till 1928 to design silver holloware, including trays,
mirror frames, bowls, and tea or coffee services. The firm was sold to the International Silver Company in 1928, and was acquired by Oneida Silversmith in 1981. As stated in Wikipedia, silverware designed by E. G. Webster & Son can be seen at the Brooklyn Museum, the Art Institute of Chicago, the Birmingham Museum of Art, and the National Museum of American History.
