Antique Gilchrist No. 33 Ice Cream Scoop manufactured by the Gilchrist Company of Newark, N.J.  Gilchrist advertised this "Gilchrist No. 33 Pyramid Ice Cream Disher, "Better Than Need Be" goods. The ice cream scoop has a wooden handle and according to the Gilchrist ad in May 1914, the bowl and scraper are made of German silver.  According to Kovels, the other metal parts are nickel plated brass.  When pressed, the metal brass thumb lever works well to spin the blades inside the scoop. Marked on the sweeper/scraper blade is the number "10", indicating that this size ice cream scoop will serve 10 scoops to 1 quart of ice cream. The thumb lever is incised with "Gilchrist's No. 33".  This Gilchrist Pyramid ice cream scoop measures approximately 10 1/4" long.  As shown clearly in the last photo above, there is a approximately 1 1/4" crack along the right side of the wooden handle stretching from the brass collar toward the butt end of the handle. The crack does not show from the thumb lever side and the handle is tight and secure. This antique Gilchrist No. 33 Ice Cream Scoop is in very good antique condition considering its over 100 years of age and use. Great addition to a Gilchrist or an Ice Cream Scoop Collection!
