Description
This intriguing little silver plate syrup pitcher by Meriden Britannia Company was produced in the last decade or so of the 1800s and has been used, stored, and banged about somewhat. The very top of the finial is missing, although I didn't notice it at first because it is very smooth. Working with the traditional medium of silver/silver plate, Meriden manufactured some fanciful holloware pieces. This 6.25" lidded-pitcher has what I would call an Egyptian theme, with geometric elements and even a nod to bird wings on the handle. The design band around the bottom is interesting, elongated drips around an etched band. The spout is wide and squared off, accented at the bottom with a stylized design.
