Description
Antique Vintage Novelty Ice Cream Sandwich Scoop Mayer Mfg. Corp. ChicagoUp for bid and for your consideration is an antique or vintage novelty ice cream sandwich scoop manufactured by Mayer Mfg. Corp. of Chicago.
This would make a great addition to any ice cream scoop collection.
Here are the details:
This is about 11-3/4 inches tall from the top of the handle to the top of the scoop opening. The scoop end is about 3-1/4 inches wide, 2-7/8 inches tall and 1/2 inches thick.
Remember when ice cream came in rectangular cartons? This scoop could be used to carve out rectangles for ice cream sandwiches! You would push the scoop end into the ice cream then with a flick of the lever, the ice cream would be pushed out of the scoop. The lever is attached to a rod that is attached to another rod that is inside the shaft, that is attached to a bar at the base of the scoop. The bar pushes the ice cream out of the scoop! Near the bottom of the shaft near the handle there is a little gauge you can turn to adjust the size of the scoop. It is marked 20, 18 or 16 scoops per quart.
I am guessing that the metal components are made of nickel silver, maybe over brass which does not attract a magnet. I really don't know, but I bet you collectors do! There is one part that looks like it may be aluminum, the piece that attaches the lever to the shaft, but really, I don't know!
The scoop is marked but is pretty hard to make out, the stamping or engraving is weak but it reads: "Mayer Mfg. Corp." The second is mostly missing but what is visible is: "Pa" then a bunch of letters are missing then "nding" I suspect it should read "Patents Pending". The third line is "1608 S. Wabash" I'm not positive the forth number is an "8". and the last line is "Chicago", The area of writing has many fine scratches, like someone was trying to clean the area to read the print, but used a slightly abrasive material to do the cleaning. You don't really see it unless you are looking through a magnifying glass.
This would make a great addition to any ice cream scoop collection. Maybe you know someone who would love this as a gift. Why not bid now?

It's time to clear out some of my "collection", so check out my other auctions! I’m cleaning house and have a lot of different, interesting things up for bid!
