    Description

Here we are offering a magnificent and ornate antique pre-1890 silver-plate coffee pitcher. The plaque on the bottom of the pitcher shows that it was made by Hall Elton & Company of Wallingford, Connecticut. This company produced German silver and Britannia items popular in the Victorian era. The company was founded by Deacon Almer Hall and William Elton in 1837 and continued production until purchased by Maltby, Stevens & Curtiss in 1890 and became part of the International Silver Company.
This piece is unpolished, has a few minor dents, and the plating is missing on a small area of the handle.
The pitcher is structurally perfect. No  cracks. The hinge works perfectly. The piece is very heavy. Note the exquisite details like the woman bear on the handle, the square  finial on the top and the fine  engraving on the body. This pitcher has not been polished or restored. The silver plating has diminished on the handle -see photo. Some collectors would appreciate the historical patina and not restore and some collectors might want to have the pitcher replated and actually use the pitcher for coffee service. This should be in a museum as an example of early American silver work.
My estimate is that this pitcher was produced between 1850 and 1880.
Please see all photos for the items condition and as a part of the description.  This historical item sold as is.
