There is a large Victorian monograms on one side while the other side has been left blank.The hinge is sturdy as is the handle and the repousse features patina to accentuate the shine of the silver plate. Only a partal makers mark is on the base as it has a repair on the bottom. There are no leaks.

The book, American Silver Plate by Dorothy Rainwater features the design and give examples of manufactures that produced it. Reed and Barton c1858, Rogers & Bros 1860, along with Roswell Gleason are a few of the silver plate companies. The base of the claret has been repaired, (with no leaks) so only a partial mark remains. The, base and on the handle. The floral and leaf repousse design is clear and accentuates the shine of the silver plate. Condition: The claret or decanter is in good condition as shown in the pictures. The silver plate is shiny and bright with a high relief repousse floral and leaf design to accentuate the shine of the plate. The handle and hinge are sturdy.
