    Description

This is a PHOTOCOPY of a Vintage 1930s pattern to make doll clothes for your Shirley Temple Doll. I have this pattern available in a variety of sizes, so please be sure that you are buying the right one. This auction is for the 18" tall doll and will fit other antique or composition dolls of the era including Patsy Ann.
This pattern makes a play suit, a party dress and hat, a smock, skirt and jacket, a second coat with hat and combination undergarment. The play suit (or pajamas) consists of pants and a top. The top ties in the back and on the front it is embroidered on the chest with your initial(s) and flowers. The party dress is embroidered with lazy daisies on either side of the center panel. It also includes a matching wide brim hat. The smock (looks like a full coat) is gathered all around the neckline, has embroidery going down both sleeves and has two front pockets. The skirt and jacket are a pair. The skirt does not have a waistband, but rather is attached to front and back bodice pieces - I assume to keep it from slipping off of the doll. The jacket is shown in green with a collar that is cut from the same material as the skirt. The coat comes with a coordinating hat. The coat has a kick pleat in the back, pin tucks in the front and back, and the hat ties in the back. Also included but not shown is a combination undergarment - a combination is like a slip with panties attached underneath at the waist. I include a color printout of the front cover, a black and white copy of the instructions, back cover and the complete pattern. Please email me with any questions that you have.

In the 1930s the country was in the midst of the great depression and morale was low. In 1934 a young girl named Shirley Temple had her first movie role. Audiences loved her and she starred in movie after movie all with happy endings, a much needed diversion from the difficult economic times. The Ideal Toy Company started making Shirley Temple dolls to sell to her young fans. With each movie that Shirley made, a new outfit from the movie was made for sale. In addition, mothers and their daughters could purchase patterns to make clothing for their Shirley Temple dolls themselves. These patterns come from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, which just shows the lasting place Shirley Temple has in our hearts.
Due to Shirley's stardom, her dolls became an instant success and were made for many years in a large variety of sizes. Shirley Temple dolls were made in the following sizes: 11", 13", 16", 17", 18", 20", 22", 25", and 27". I have patterns available for most of these sizes.
This pattern was originally created March 5, 1936. The copyright for this pattern has expired and it entered the public domain January 1, 1965.
