Description
This is a PHOTOCOPY of a Vintage 1930s pattern to make doll clothes for your Shirley Temple Doll. I have this pattern available in a variety of sizes, so please be sure that you are buying the right one. This auction is for the 24/25" tall doll. Due to the loose fitting styles, this pattern should also fit any 24" doll, specifically Baby Dolls, Antique, and Composition Dolls. The pattern makes a coat & hat, party dress, blouse & jumper, robe, slip and step-ins. The coat has decorative pieces over the shoulders, which mimic the sleeves on the party dress. The front pieces overlap and closes with two pairs of buttons. The hat has a crown made up of four pieces with a medium sized brim. The blouse (also called a guimpe) has the bodice and sleeves cut as one piece. The sleeves are gathered with elastic at the bottom edges. The neck and bottom both have draw string closures. The jumper that is worn over the blouse is a simple construction consisting of just a front and back piece. The party dress (shown in yellow) has a skirt that is gathered to the curved yoke. The collar and sleeves are both finished with bias trim at the edges. The robe collar, front opening, sleeve edges and pocket are all finished with satin ribbon. The robe ties at the neck and has a sash at the waist. I include a color printout of the front cover, a black and white copy of the instructions, back cover and the complete pattern. Please email me with any questions that you have.

In the 1930s the country was in the midst of the great depression and morale was low. In 1934 a young girl named Shirley Temple had her first movie role. Audiences loved her and she starred in movie after movie all with happy endings, a much needed diversion from the difficult economic times. The Ideal Toy Company started making Shirley Temple dolls to sell to her young fans. With each movie that Shirley made, a new outfit from the movie was made for sale. In addition, mothers and their daughters could purchase patterns to make clothing for their Shirley Temple dolls themselves. These patterns come from the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, which just shows the lasting place Shirley Temple has in our hearts.
Due to Shirley's stardome, her dolls became an instant success and were made for many years in a large variety of sizes. Shirley Temple dolls were made in the following sizes: 11", 13", 16", 17", 18", 20", 22", 25", and 27". I have patterns available for most of these sizes.
This pattern was originally printed January 2, 1936. It was NOT copyrighted and became part of the public domain upon its publication, January 2, 1936.
